Always and Forever, Lara Jean

I was so excited back when Jenny Han announced that Lara Jean's story would continue in a third and final book. Jenny Han creates characters and writes in a way that you just don't want their stories to end.

Lara Jean is having the best senior year. And there’s still so much to look forward to: a class trip to New York City, prom with her boyfriend Peter, Beach Week after graduation, and her dad’s wedding to Ms. Rothschild. Then she’ll be off to college with Peter, at a school close enough for her to come home and bake chocolate chip cookies on the weekends.

Life couldn’t be more perfect! At least, that’s what Lara Jean thinks…until she gets some unexpected news. Now the girl who dreads change must rethink all her plans—but when your heart and your head are saying two different things, which one should you listen to?

There was something about officially knowing that this would be the last book we got about Lara Jean that made me not read it right away. I knew that I would love this book. It's Jenny Han we are talking about. It's impossible not to love her books. Yet I couldn't read it right away. I wasn't ready to let go of Lara Jean, Kitty, Peter and all the other fantastic characters.

Lara Jean is such a fantastically written character. She's grown so much since the first book and to see her to continue to grow into someone who really knows what she wants was one of my favorite parts about this book. I'll miss Lara and her need to figure out the best chocolate chip cookie recipe. She is one of those characters that will stick with you long down the road even after you've loved many other characters in different books.

The family dynamic in this series is something that Jenny Han has perfected. The relationship between Lara and Kitty is lovely. I've said it before in my reviews of the first two books but Kitty needs a series of her own. That girl has so much wit it has you chuckling so much while you read.

Peter, Peter, Peter. Talk about character growth. Don't get me wrong he is still same old Peter that you fall in love with in the first book but he's also just so much better. He's grown up. He still has his moments where you wanna shake him silly but this is Peter we are talking about. He wouldn't be Peter Kavinksy if there weren't a few of those moments of "boy what are you doing!" But among those moments are those sweet, heart melting moments.

Always and Forever, Lara Jean was a really great way to conclude Lara Jean's story. Do I wish there were more? Yes. But also no because of how fantastic Jenny Han concluded it. That last page had me smiling, feeling bittersweet and sad and happy and everything all at once! This book is getting 5 out of 5 birds from me. I'd highly recommend this book! If you are like me and holding off reading it because of not wanting it to end just read it! You won't regret it.

  1. I love Jenny Han's books but I still haven't read this series! Lara does sound like a great character, and that's awesome that it has a strong family dynamic. Great review!
