Summary from Goodreads:
Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes that the dead leave behind in the world... and the imprints that attach to their killers.
Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find the dead birds her cat had tired of playing with. But now that a serial killer has begun terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.
Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet on her quest to find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved to find herself hoping that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer... and becoming his prey herself.
Violet Ambrose has a secret. Ever since she was little she has been finding dead things. She hears these echoes that lead her to the sight of the murdered. Girls begin to go missing and soon Violet is determined to find the killer even if it means she’s risking her life in the process of trying to keep this killer from killing again.
The Body Finder instantly captivates its readers. We first meet Violet and she’s eight years old. She’s walking in the forest with her father. She senses what she calls an echo and soon finds something no one ever wants to see. If that prologue doesn’t captivate you instantly I don’t know what else will. It was a really great start it definitely made me want to keep reading, which I feel is important. I love it when a book has my attention instantly to the point I want to keep reading and reading and reading…
Violet Ambrose is an awesome character. I just love her. She’s witty, smart, funny, brave definitely brave. Half of the things Violet does and witnesses…I sure as heck could not handle as good as she does. Just the thought of being her and having to deal with serial killers and finding dead bodies makes me want to hide under the covers. But even though she’s brave she isn’t arrogant. She knows she can’t take on a killer on her own. She knows she’s not some invincible person just because she has this different quality to her than everyone else. I liked that. I liked that even though she was putting herself in these dangerous situations she wasn’t all “I’m not afraid.” instead she was terrified. Made me feel like she was more of a realistic character because any sane person in her shoes would be terrified for sure! I definitely can’t wait to see how she will develop as a person in the next book, Desires of the Dead.
Jay Heaten. I love, love, love, love this character. He’s just so sweet. And funny. And kind. And so protective. And so many other amazing things. I am a sucker for a story about best friends from child hood falling for each other. Seriously I seek out these books. I just love them! Jay is the perfect love interest. He’s got it all. The way Kimberly described Jay was just so swoon-worthy. The relationship she created between Jay and Violet was priceless and perfect. She created two really awesome characters who I personally love reading about. Not only am I looking forward to seeing how Violet will change and develop with each book but as well as Jay and the relationship between him and Violet.
One word always pops into my mind whenever I think about this book and that is creepy. I mean just the title alone gives me chills. The Body Finder is full of so many good things but the best I think was how Kimberly Derting really thought out the way this book was going to end and how everything would be tied up. There was something that we learn about Violet and the killer that I thought was brilliant. I never saw that coming but I loved how Kimberly connected that. It was really a great surprise. Really the whole book was surprising. I never really had it figured who the psycho was when I first read the book but after you find out who it is you realize that Kimberly gave these tiny little hints that you could either snatch onto or miss completely. I missed some of them which I’m glad I did because it made the read so much better not knowing who it was and having theories as you read. Definitely lots of suspense and mystery in this book and creepy vibes that make you wish you weren’t reading the book at night, but not only that there is just the right amount of romance and humor. It’s got a little bit of everything this book.
The Body Finder is such a great book anyone who loves reading with enjoy this one. It’s got everything you want in a book so whether you’re a hardcore sci-fi fan or contemporary fan The Body Finder will have you hooked from the very first page. I’m giving The Body Finder 5 out of 5 birds. Give this book a chance for sure. Once you read it you will desperately want book two so you can find out what happens next.
