Song Of The Week

I'm not a huge country fan. Sometimes I can take it or leave it other days I just can't stand it. I think really it just depends on my mood and who the singer is. Lately though I've found that I'm listening to it more and more. I recently just heard this song with Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson and I can't stop listening to it. I've heard it before, but it wasn't until yesterday that I realized I really liked it.

I don't know what it is about this song but I love it. And can't stop hitting replay. I've always liked Kelley Clarkson, but not to big of a fan of this guy aside from this song. Yep, so this week is a country song last week it was The Beatles. What song can't you stop listening to?

You do this twice from any random page just make sure the teasers are not SPOILERS! This week I will be sharing two teasers from Fractured Light by Rachel McClellan!

"My fingers grazed something soft, yet stiff. Wondering what it could be, I took hold of its small form and pulled it out. It fit in my palm like a lucky rabbit's foot, but there was nothing fortunate about it. My teeth clamped down on the inside of my cheek until I tasted blood. It was all I could do to keep from screaming" (from pg. 15)

"He flashed me the kind of smile that probably made most girls swoon. For me, however, it did nothing but make my stomach flutter once. But that was more than I'd ever experience with anyone else." (from pg. 29)

Song Of The Week

I'm back with another Song Of The Week. It's going up a bit later than normal, but at least it is going up! I watched this movie called Nowhere Boy a few weeks ago and its all about John Lennon and ever since then I've kind of been listening to some of The Beatles. I've never been much into their music until now. So this one has been stuck in my head for quite a few days. It's just so catchy.

All You Need Is Love by The Beatles:

As well as...

Blackbird by The Beatles:

And probably my favorite...

Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles:

So this week I'm sharing three songs instead of one, but it's because all of these have been stuck in my head. I don't really particularly like All You Need Is Love but I find myself humming it a lot to myself. I guess its growing on me. :D Hope you enjoyed the songs. I'm a little late jumping on The Beatles bandwagon...but oh well. I sorta like some of their music now. I never really cared much for them. So yeah those are the songs stuck in my head this week! What song is stuck in your head whether you like it or not?

I'm Back

Hey guys! Quick update for all of you. I've been with out internet since the 12th of July and am finally back online. Aside from the two posts I scheduled there has been nothing up on here and it's going to take me a bit to get back into the swing of things. It shouldn't be to hard, but things might be a bit slow until I can get back into my normal blogging routine.

I haven't gotten much reading done since I've been gone house sitting. What was I doing that could take up all my time as I house sat? Well I was busy taking care of awesome horses and cats and dogs and some other fun stuff.  There wasn't much time for me to read. And to be totally honest I didn't want to read. I'm kind of in a reading funk at the moment. I hate it when I get like this and usually its because I've read such a good book. I promise though that things will get back to normal. I just need to get back into my normal routine of things first.

Sorry about my silence. But I'm Back now. :)

Song Of The Week

I recently heard this song in a movie called Sweet November that I can't get out of my head. It's stuck with me. It's just so pretty and I love the lyrics.

Only Time by Enya

I think I've heard this song before, but I'm not sure. I really like it. Towards the ending it can get a bit repetitive, but otherwise its a good song. I'm going to definitely going to have to check out more music by this artist. Have a song that is stuck in your head? Let me know in the comments! :)

Lonely Souls Blog Tour: Excerpt

Today I get to share with you guys an excerpt from a book called Lonely Souls by Karice Bolton. Make sure to check out AToMR's site to see the full blog tour schedule as there are many fantastic blogs participating with many cool posts.

The excerpt from Lonely Souls is very intriguing if I do say so myself. Kind of creepy to. But before I share the excerpt with you here is what the book is about.

Summary from Goodreads:

It’s two weeks before Triss turns 18, and her world is about to change into the most magical one imaginable as she readies herself to enter The Witch Avenue Order... that is until her mother’s disappearance. Instead of celebrating her transformation, she finds herself spreading rose petals into her mother’s empty grave.

When Logan, her best friend from junior high, moves back to town for college, he vows to help her find the answers she so desperately seeks surrounding her mother’s disappearance. As they begin uncovering clues, it becomes apparent that the life of white magic they both grew up loving is not what the majority practices, and their lives are in danger.

With a haunting feeling that her mother may still be alive, she begins to hear a call to the wilderness. Triss realizes that in order to find the answers she needs, she must learn the ways of her ancestors and become the hunter, not the hunted before it’s too late, and she becomes part of the lonely souls.

Excerpt from Lonely Souls:

The creature's mouth puckers, producing a shrill whistle that was bone shivering. It was shaking its head back and forth, running its fingers along the glass, briefly pausing to tap on it, I'm sure only to unnerve me. All it had to do was either shatter the glass or open the glass door. Against my better judgment, I actually hoped that this thing was some form of black magic, because then it might not have thinking capabilities, only task abilities. An oily trail was left on the glass in the wake of the being's finger.
The whistling stopped and then the scratchy voice began.
"You have what I was sent for," the voice was grating and produced a sickening layer around me.

Red Heart Tattoo

I've always been intrigued by the story lines of books written by Lurlene McDaniel but have never actually read one of her books until Red Heart Tattoo. After reading this book I definitely one hundred percent will read another book by this author. It wasn't at all what I expected, but it was a good book. Definitely makes your heart call out to these characters who went through something so horrible.

Summary from Goodreads:

At 7:45 a.m. on the day before Thanksgiving break, a bomb goes off at Edison High. Nine people die instantly. Fifteen are critically injured. Twenty-two suffer less severe injuries. And one is blinded. Those who survive, struggle to cope with the loss and destruction. All must find new meaning for their lives as a result of something they may never understand.

Lurlene McDaniel's signature expertise and finesse in dealing with issues of violence, death, and physical as well as emotional trauma in the lives of teens is immediate and heartrending.

All the lives of the students who attend Edison High are altered when a bomb goes off in their school. Some lives are altered more significantly than others. People were injured, people died, and one student even lost their sight. They all have to deal with what happened and the after affects that leave some of their lives changed forever.

Red Heart Tattoo is not a book light with laughter. It's dark and its sad. From the moment you start this book you know something horrible is going to happen, but that horrible event doesn't happen right away. No, you have to read and watch as the characters are clueless about what is going to happen. But you know its going to happen. The build up was personally for me kind of horrible. Some of the characters I'd already built a liking for and knowing that something so horrible was about to happen made me sad not knowing what was going to happen to these characters.

Red Heart Tattoo revolves around a bunch of different characters and it was interesting watching how certain things in their lives played out. Some of it I saw coming others I didn't. Kelli's big issue I suspected and wasn't all that shocked to learn. It made me so sad to learn after the accident what happened to her. Kelli was not my favorite character in this book, but when you learn what you do about her you realize why she acted the way she did. There was another thing I picked up on and can't really say what that was, but their are hints to make you realize that maybe what is happening actually isn't. It's to spoilery to get anymore specific than that, but those who have read this book will get what I'm talking about.

Morgan and Roth were the characters who I liked reading about the most. Morgan was the student council president and ate lunch with the elites. Roth was the boy with tattoos and a bad boy rep. Two completely different people who end up being more a like than they realize. I loved reading and watching as these two got closer. It was great watching Morgan deal with what has happened to her and how her life has changed. I think she handled it well considering everything. There was one scene towards the very end at a gas station. I can't say what happens, but what does happen was really beautiful. The way Lurlene wrote that scene with Morgan finally seeing certain things clearly was amazing. Best scene in the book in my opinion. Sad though, but beautiful at the same time.

It's hard to write a review for this book without giving anything away about everything that happens in this book and a lot happens. Red Heart Tattoo is heart-breaking and whats really horrible is knowing that what happens in this book can happen in real life--has happened in real life. Just knowing that makes this book even more heart-breaking. This book is written so beautifully and the way the author ties everything together and wraps the story up was great.

What I loved and hated most about this book was getting to read from the perspective of the monsters who built the bomb. Lurlene writes that so perfectly that it literally makes you sick to your stomach knowing that their are people actually like that. People who are filled with glee knowing that they are the reason for the bomb going off. I hated reading the interactions of the bombers and yet at the same time the book wouldn't be the same without that twisted sight into the world of those characters.

Red Heart Tattoo is a must read for anyone who likes to read a good book. But don't expect to read a book that will make you laugh a lot. This book will make your stomach and heart hurt. It's worth it though because this is truly an amazing book. Lurlene McDaniel handled things that were tragic and traumatic beautifully and her writing captivates you from the very first line. Red Heart Tattoo is getting 4 out of 5 stars from me. I'd recommend this book to anyone for sure. It's to good of a story not to be read.

~~Thank you Netgalley for providing me with a copy before its official publication date!~~

Song Of The Week

This week I haven't been listening to as much music as I usually do but I recently came across this song that I really like. It won't get out of my head. I heard it in the movie The Rebound and it's just stuck with me.

Bitch by Meredith Brooke:

The chorus has been stuck in my head since I watched the movie so I finally just bought the song yesterday and now can't stop listening to it. It's just so catchy! It's an older song and I'm pretty sure I've heard it before but just forgot about it. Anyways yeah this is the song that is in my head at the moment. Any song that you can't get out of your head?

Waiting On Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill over at Breaking The Spine were you spotlight a book that hasn't come out yet but you are dying to read. My Waiting on Wednesday pick this week is...

Foretold: 14 Tales of Prophecy and Prediction:

Summary from Goodreads:

Have you ever been tempted to look into the future? To challenge predictions? To question fate?

It's human nature to wonder about life's twists and turns. But is the future already written—or do you have the power to alter it?

From fantastical prophecies to predictions of how the future will transpire, Foretold is a collection of stories about our universal fascination with life's unknowns and of what is yet to come as interpreted by 14 of young adult fiction's brightest stars.

The moment I learned there was going to be a short story with Rose and Dimitri in this book I knew I had to have it. I miss those two characters so much! I can't wait to get my hands on this book so I can read the story with Rose and Dimitri from Vampire Academy. As well as all the other stories since the names on this book are all great authors. It doesn't come out until August though. I still have some waiting for this one. What book are you waiting for?

Before I Wake

I've been a fan of the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent since I read the first book. And now with the sixth book out in the world its hard to believe that this awesome series only has one more book before it ends. Before I Wake was all kinds of awesome and with the way it ended I already can tell this series is going to end with a bang.

If you have not read If I Die yet, do NOT read this review. It will contain some spoilers from that book because its impossible to write a review for this book and not spoil some certain things. So please DO NOT read this review if you haven't read If I Die it will only ruin the book for you. Unless of course you like spoilers than keep on reading.

Summary from Goodreads:

I died on a Thursday-killed by a monster intent on stealing my soul. The good news? He didn't get it. The bad news? Turns out not even death will get you out of high school...  Covering up her own murder was one thing, but faking life is much harder than Kaylee Cavanaugh expected. After weeks spent "recovering," she's back in school, fighting to stay visible to the human world, struggling to fit in with her friends and planning time alone with her new reaper boyfriend. But to earn her keep in the human world, Kaylee must reclaim stolen souls, and when her first assignment brings her face-to-face with an old foe, she knows the game has changed. Her immortal status won't keep her safe. And this time Kaylee isn't just gambling with her own life

Kaylee Cavanaugh died. She was murdered by her Math teacher who turned out to be a Incubus set out to take her soul. On the bright side? Kaylee was brought back from the dead--sorta--to reclaim souls that were stolen. Kaylee has to learn to deal with everything that has changed in her life and of course to make it all the harder there's an evil hellion causing trouble.

Kaylee has changed so much from the very first book in the series, My Soul To Take, but in Before I Wake she's changed even more. She's not the Kaylee we're used to. Sure, there is a lot about Kaylee that is the same. She's tough, heroic, stubborn, kick-butt and down right awesome. But Kaylee died and it was bound to change her. It was really interesting reading this book and seeing how Kaylee dealt with everything. There were a lot of moments in this book that made my heart ache for Kaylee. So much happens in this book and man some of it is literally heart breaking. Those who have read this book know what I'm talking about. Kaylee's still the same Kaylee, but at the same time she's different. And I think in the long run the change that we're seeing is going to lead to an even better and stronger version of Kaylee.

There was a lot of stuff in this book that made my heart ache for Kaylee but there was also a lot of stuff that made me laugh and smile and go "Aww!" Tod and Kaylee's relationship is so amazing in this book. I thought the scenes with those two in If I Die made my heart melt--holy crap the scenes in Before I Wake were even better! I don't want to give anything away, but these two are really truly amazing together. I'm so glad they ended up getting together like they did. We get to see sides of Tod we didn't always see in previous books and man do I love those sides. Tod is so devoted, loving, caring, sarcastically hilarious and so many more great things! Rachel Vincent sure does know how to create a character who makes your heart melt.

Rachel Vincent made it clear that someone was going to die in Before I Wake. I of course turned into a nervous wreck when I found out about this because instantly my mind went through all the amazing characters in this series and I felt my heart sink at the thought of any of them dying! I honestly can say that I was surprised by what happened and who died in this book. People have died in previous books in this series, but the way a certain character died in Before I Wake broke my heart. It was such a gut wrenching scene and I felt so bad for Kaylee. That was just horrible. This whole book was full of surprises and shocking twists, but that one death that was the worst. I'm not gonna saw who dies or how but when it comes to the world Kaylee lives in, not a single soul is safe.

The whole time reading Before I Wake I tried figuring out what was going on. How was what was happening happening? What in the world was going on? It was all so weird! None of it made sense to me and I didn't understand how everything was working until Kaylee figured it out her self and learned some things. I honestly was not expecting that at all. It was so different from previous books! I loved it! Rachel Vincent is truly brilliant. She is a writer with such talent that when I think about my own writing I think this: I want to be as good as Rachel Vincent. She is so good with how she describes things, how she builds these worlds full of terrifying creatures, creates such amazing characters. The list could go on and on but I know that any time I pick up a book by this author all I'm gonna get is brilliance.

I'm hesitant to say this, but guys...I kind of like Sabine. Okay, I'll be completely honest and say that I loved her in this book. I never thought I would say this about Sabine, but I really do like her now. Any thing that comes out of her mouth is hilarious and her interactions with Sophie were so funny. Sabine is really a tough chick, but she's also vulnerable and in Before I Wake we get to see some of that side of Sabine. She loves Nash more than I ever really realized and I felt really bad for her in this one. See what I mean about Rachel Vincent and her brilliance? She can make you love a character you never liked. Nash is another character who I felt myself liking again. Nash made a lot of mistakes that made me feel anger towards him and sorry for him at the same time. In Before I Wake my anger finally started to go away. I felt myself liking Nash again, and I'm so glad about this before I missed liking him. He's a great character, he just screwed up a little bit.

Before I Wake was the best book in the series, they each get better and better. I'm sad to think that there is only one book left but I know that it's gonna be the best last book ever. Fans of Rachel Vincent will cry and laugh while reading this book. They will like characters they originally hated. They will fall deeper in love with Tod Hudson. Before I Wake is getting 5 out of 5 stars from me. Now is a good time to start this series if you haven't already because the longer you wait the longer you have to know you missed out on all the brilliance inside of Before I Wake.
